NOVEMBER 25th 2007

The runs continue to be popular and this week we attracted riders from three Preston Clubs plus 2 new recruits who are studying at Uclan, welcome to Tom and Jack. The full list of riders to venture out were Wheelers Eddie Stobart, The Bolster, Stelly, Dodgy and JPS, joined by PCC boys Jono and Robbie, Mick B from the Valley but soon to return to the Mighty Wheelers and then Tom and Jack, both studying at UCLAN and riding for other clubs outside the area. Both Jack and Tom impressed the guys with their effortless riding style with one Wheeler actually referring to them as the Duracell Bunnies.

On with the ride which today took us up the A6 to Garstang where we slipped left for Winmarleigh and Cockerham. After a brief stop to answer the call of nature, all 10 riders continued towards Lancaster. Safely through the Sunday traffic in the centre and on to Caton where Eddie Stobbart and the Bolster said farewell, deciding to return via Quernmore.

After another brief stop at Crook o’ Lune picnic site at the request of one of the new boys, we continued through the park. Almost unnoticed the two youngsters got away from the rest of the group on the first climb but once the chase started it was every man for himself and on joining the main road everything was brought back under control. With the weather looking brighter than expected we continued at a steady pace to the A65 at Kirkby Lonsdale and then turned right back towards Hornby. We turned out of Hornby to Wray for our lunch stop at which point Robbie, Jono and Stelly decided to continue back home hoping to return before the weather turned nasty.

After a fight for a table at the bridge house caff the 5 hungry cyclists sat down to eat although eating 3 flapjacks proved too much for some!

The return journey took us back to Caton and over Quernmore to the A6, from where the pace rarely dipped below 20mph thanks to a slight tail wind all the way to Preston. With only a very slight shower to dampen our spirits it was another enjoyable day of 80 miles.

Thanks to the young chaps for their company and hope to see you back soon.

Thank you to Jose for the excellent report and photos. I must also say a big welcome to the lads from the Uni and say we hope that you all come out again very soon. Hopefully see you all out this coming Sunday
