Well, not quite the turnout we had hoped for but three
hardy souls braved the threat of showers and a cool easterly to arrive at
the Withys for the 9.30 start. JPS, Dodgy and the Doolster, all feeling
fit from their effects in recent weeks although not together.
A steady pace was set to Longridge with chit chat along the way. The roads
were reasonably quiet with only a handful of anti cycling drivers using
their usual charm to indicate their feelings. Progress was made towards
Chipping and over Little Bowland before dropping to the main road to
Dunsop Bridge. From here the apprehension of the forthcoming climb was
evident as the chatting ceased and the riders reached for their back
pockets. Towards the bottom of the climb all three riders paced themselves
nicely but both JPS and Dodgy having the advantage of a granny ring slowly
edged away from the Doolster to the top, regrouping at the summit for two
minutes silence to respect the war dead and for a brief photo shoot.
It was a brisk ride from here over Marshaw finishing in a half hearted
sprint for the Scorton sign, arriving at the Priory in plenty of time for
a pre lunch coffee. We said farewell to the Doolster who had chosen to
omit the NLTTA lunch from his training schedule.
The lunch was the usual well organised affair with the mighty Wheelers
walking off with a truck load of silverware, and finished off with a
charming vote of thanks from the ladies' champion, Lynne Hamel on behalf
of the prize winners. JPS and Dodgy were joined by the Flemster for the
chilly return to Preston with the help of flashing LEDs.
Thank you to Jose for the excellent report and photos.
Hopefully see you all out this coming Sunday
