SATURDAY
11th MARCH 2006 - Congleton
Wow what else can the weather throw at us at the moment. 2 weekends on
the trot now we have had heavy snow and ice with many events being cancelled
we were very lucky to get a ride. With this being our 1st race of the season
we were unsure of what to expect. We had both ridden the course on a
previous occasion but with different partners. Today the chuckle brothers
returned. This is myself the man mountain (Matt Hoyles) and also Matt Stell
the new boy in the club. The weather was kind and gave us a dry but bitterly
cold day. The race began well with us both doing very good turns on the
front. The roads themselves were very rolling and the section back to the
finish to complete the first lap was dragging due to a very strong head
wind. By the time we returned to finish the race it was clear that we had
both used just about every thing we had got as we crossed the line in a time
of 1.02.35 which does not sound brilliant for 25 miles. The only good news
is that there was only one team to go under the hour on the day and they
recorded a time of 54.55 to win the event. The second placed riders were
Paul Flemming and Darren Perry who is making what seems to be a very fast
return in his Wheelers colours!!! We finally finished in 6th place overall
which we were pleased with as we had never ridden this distance together!!
