Yet again someone was being
kind and gave us excellent weather for cycling. The weather this morning was
absolutely perfect. Slightly cool but with little wind, it looked to be a
great day for our ride out over the Trough to Chipping ready for our
Christmas Lunch. On the ride today was myself ( Eddie Stobart) looking
rather fetching dressed as a glow worm!!! Gethin Butler, Joe Doolan, Mark
Bolton, Paul Fleming and also Jose Pinon Shaw who had decided that he wanted
a challenge and was riding a 69 inch fixed gear bike. Not a good move when
you have the trough to tackle. Anyway we set off toward Catforth and the
Fylde to allow the older members to get to Scorton Priory before us. We
Travelled through Catforth, St Micheals and then towards Scronkey before
making our way through Wimarleigh and onto Scorton. We actually arrived at
the exact same time as the other group which was great. Anyway in we went
for a well earned brew as the pace up to this point was very quick. Jose
decided at this stage that the use of a fixed gear was a silly idea so he
decided to find himself some extra energy. At this stage he missed his mouth
and tipped the entire sugar bowl onto the floor. Lets just say there was a
lot of sugar on the floor when he finished. I don't think that he will ever
live this one down!!! The other group left before us so we gave them a head
start. We finally managed to catch them up just at the base of the Trough
which was good timing :-) Over the Trough we went with Jose about 100 yards
ahead trying to keep his gear going!! We stopped at the top for a picture of
the whole group looking slightly tired from their efforts. The best bit of
the ride for me was seeing Jose descending off the Trough with his legs
wizzing round!! From the Trough we were joined by some of the other group
who wanted to ride with us 'fast lads'. Well I didn't feel fast anyway.
Through Whitewell and onto Chipping where we had arrived in record time and
reserved our place in the pub waiting for the rest of the people to arrive.
This was again an excellent ride and it was really good to see so many faces
out both young and old. Some of which I had never met but I think everyone
will agree that it was a brilliant day. Roll on next year!! Please see the
CHRISTMAS LUNCH REPORT to see what else happened during the
afternoon. After the meal we all rode home toward Longridge before I turned
off to ride back home. Lets just say by this time it was beginning to get
very dark.
