SATURDAY
26th FEB 2005 - BOLTON BY BOWLAND HILLY TT 10.3 miles
This event is well known in the local area as being the first major TT
of the season and often gives people a good idea as to how their rivals are
going to be going throughout the season!! This year was no exception. On a
very cold day 5 Wheelers riders took the challenge of this hilly and
technical course. These were myself (Matt Hoyles) on my training bike,
Gethin Butler (on his new TT bike), Geoff Duteson (looking very well), Jose
Pinon Shaw (again on his new TT bike) and also Dave Littlefair (who was ill
after picking up a mystery virus). The day itself was very cold with a head
wind over the first 6 miles of the course which as you have guessed is
uphill!!!. We all had excellent rides, showing that we all have good form. I
think the ride of the day must go to Geoff Duteson who did an amazing ride.
The event was won overall by, you guessed it, Gethin Butler with a time of
24.47 which was an excellent ride on such a hilly course. I was very pleased
with my ride finishing with a time of 27.30 which placed me 10th. This was
made even better by the fact that for the past 2 years I have nearly come
last so losing weight and training really does work!!! Geoff was next with
a time of 28.17 which placed him in 15th place overall. Closely behind was
Jose with a time of 28.18 just 1 second slower than Geoff which made us all
chuckle;-) Dave who looked ill from his mystery virus came in with a time of
28.52 which was a very credible time and ended up placing him in 20th place
out of 48 riders which is extremely good. Can I thank everyone for their
support and especially to Cyril for turning out and taking pictures of the
event. I look forward to seeing them.
